Case Report # 3
"Keeping Up With the Jones"
The patient is a 40 year old male requiring a dental implant following loss of retained primary molar. The alveolar crest was dense and cortical and the overlying gingival tissue exhibited a wide zone of attached gingiva.
Surgical placement of the dental implant followed a crestal incision and flap elevation. A pilot drill was placed to a depth of 13 mm. Serial enlargements of diameter were made with the 2.5 mm, 3.0 mm, 3.3 mm and drills. Micro-Lok drills are four fluted and have six ports for internal irrigation. Osteotomy site preparation is very easy with these four fluted drills and the numerous ports for internal irrigation allow for site preparation with excellent cooling and irrigation.
Radiographs are taken at an intermediate diameter to confirm positioning and apical extent of osteotomy site relative to vital structures.
The final radiograph shows the Micro-Lok RBM Screw Implant 4.0 mm x 13 mm in place with the single-stage-healing abutment. Note the very precise fit of this abutment to the implant platform. The precise fit of abutment components to the implant platform (5 microns) allows this abutment to be placed and secured by the abutment screw without tissue ingrowth between the implant and abutment.
